From Vintage Brochures to 5-Foot-Tall Displays
Sometimes a design project is less about creating something new and more about preserving what already exists.
For this project, I was provided with scans of old printed brochures that needed to be transformed into large-format graphics measuring approximately 5 feet tall. The challenge was that artwork originally created for a small printed piece simply can’t be enlarged to that size without losing quality.
Each piece required careful rebuilding and restoration. I cleaned up scanned images, recreated typography and graphic elements where needed, corrected imperfections from the original printed materials, and prepared the finished artwork at a resolution suitable for large-format printing.
The goal wasn’t to redesign the original brochures. It was to preserve their original look and character while making them work at an entirely different scale.
Projects like this are a great example of the production side of graphic design that often happens behind the scenes. Taking an old printed piece and turning it into a crisp, 5-foot-tall graphic requires a combination of design, image editing, recreation and large-format print knowledge.
